About Thump

Thump was conceived in the fall of 2007 while the founders were still students at Columbia University in New York City. Their experiences as undergraduates inspired them to build and grow a vital on-line learning community where information and experiences about the practice and benefits of safe sex—where prevention is a solution—can be discussed openly and honestly, without being lectured to or talked down to.

Like many entrepreneurs, the founders were a little ahead of the times and key pieces of the technology puzzle required to implement Thump were not available. It was only after a three-year gestation period that the final technology components fell into place.

The Thump community is a welcoming and safe platform where anyone—from teens looking to get straight answers about safe sex and
STI’s to concerned adults to full-time health experts—can connect and discuss one of the most important health and well-being topics on everyone’s life mind: How to have a fun and healthy sex life that is also safe.

Thump combines the capabilities of social networking, micro-blogging, and blogs – tools that hundreds of millions of people around the world use to connect every day, in a fun, easy-to-use, immersive, and interactive experience that encourages personal expression, connection, and the genuine and meaningful communication with friends in their networks.
