Ira L. Stephens DVM founded our animal clinic, located in Jacksonville, in 1981. A long time Texan, Dr. Stephens attended the College of Veterinary Medicine at Texas A & M University and graduated in 1968. After graduating, Dr. Stephens worked primarily as an equine veterinarian and with cattle in the Texas Panhandle. He then was employed by the Texas Animal Health Commission and served as Area Veterinarian for 10 years in the Panhandle Area and Rio Grande Valley. Dr. Stephens moved to the East Texas Area in 1975.

Dr. Stephens is very involved in the Jacksonville community and over the years he has donated his time and services to low-cost rabies vaccination clinics in Jacksonville, to animal clinic rescue organizations, and local shelters. Dr. Stephens encourages the education of pet owners throughout Cherokee County and he is always willing to share his extensive knowledge of animals, equine care and small animal pet care. Dr. Stephens also contributes both time and funds to the PAWS Society of East Texas.
