In 2006, the Helenka B bacame a family business when Bruce purchased the ship to keep it in Homer, Alaska rather than sending it over seas to prospective foreign owners. Prior to beginning his career on the Helenka B, Captain Flanigan worked in the cleanup efforts of the Exxon Valdez oil spill as a deckhand aboard the Ramalee in 1989.
Today, the crew consists of the Captain, one experienced mate, and two experienced deckhands at all times.
